Wet and Slidy - Our Hike to Mt. Daraitan, Rizal

Daraitan has always been a go-to location for me to enjoy a good nature escape near Manila. Ever since my first visit in 2017, I always wanted to go back, and over the years, there's been a fast-growing amount of glamping spots around the river as it is a great place to just sit back and enjoy time out in nature.

One of the key reasons why people visit Daraitan is because of Mt. Daraitan. Nestled in the heart of Brgy. Daraitan in Tanay, Rizal, Mt. Daraitan stands as a beacon of natural splendor. Renowned for its unspoiled view, the mountain presents a rewarding challenge for adventurers and a stunning vista of the Sierra Madre and Tinipak River. For those looking to escape urban life and immerse in nature for the weekend, here's an enhanced guide to trekking Mt. Daraitan.

Journey to the Mountain

For those taking their own private vehicle, I just search Daraitan Brgy Hall in Google Maps or Waze and go from there.

To those taking public transport, here is the way:

Starting your adventure from Metro Manila, get on a bus heading towards Tanay, Rizal. You can also take a jeepney from Cubao heading to Sampaloc or Tanay Market, or a UV express from Starmall Edsa Shaw.

Upon reaching Tanay, a tricycle or jeep can take you to Barangay Daraitan. Your first stop in Daraitan should be the Barangay Hall for registration and fee payment.

Note: During the rainy season, the bridge to the Barangay Hall may be inaccessible. Plan for additional travel time and potential minimal costs to take the raft across the river.

Costs and Fees

Prepare for the following expenses:

  • Environmental Fee: PHP 50.00 per hiker

  • Guide Fee: PHP 700.00 per group (up to 5 hikers)

Trail Details

The trek spans approximately 5.5 kilometers, taking about 3-4 hours to reach the summit, depending on pace and breaks. The path comprises uphill treks, river crossings, and steep rock formations, demanding extra caution, particularly for first-timers.

Trail Difficulty

With a peak elevation of 739 meters above sea level, Mt. Daraitan offers a moderately challenging experience. If you want to know if it's beginner-friendly, I would suggest trying out other mountains around Rizal first before conquering Mt. Daraitan. The steep, rocky terrain interspersed with knee-deep river currents requires sturdy gloves and trekking poles for safer navigation.

Preparation and Safety Tips

Equip yourself with essential gear, including appropriate footwear, hydration packs, and a first-aid kit. Stay informed about weather conditions and trail updates. Remember, safety is always the priority.

Hi. Can we just go there on the date we want to go, or do we have to book a guide beforehand? Also, would you know if dogs are allowed? Thank you.
