Why Morocco Should Be Your Next Travel Destination - A Desert Morocco Adventure

Hello, globetrotters! It's Nat from The Travelling Foxes, and today I'm here to talk about a destination that's close to my heart - Morocco. This North African gem is a kaleidoscope of culture, landscapes, and experiences, and I'm thrilled to share why it should be on your travel bucket list.

A Land of Diversity: Morocco is a country where East meets West, ancient meets modern, and mountains meet the desert. With its vibrant cities like Marrakech and Fes, serene beaches, and the vast Sahara desert, Morocco offers a little something for every type of traveler.

I went there with two friends, Natasha and Cecille and it was super amazing! We got to experience the top layer of what the country has to offer on our 8-day adventure.

Rich Cultural Tapestry: One of the most compelling reasons to visit Morocco is its rich cultural heritage. This is a land of Berber, Arab, and European influences, which is evident in its architecture, cuisine, and daily life. From the bustling souks to the majestic palaces and mosques, each corner of Morocco tells a story of its diverse history.

Breathtaking Landscapes: The natural beauty of Morocco is unparalleled. You can explore the rugged Atlas Mountains, relax on the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, or experience the ethereal charm of the Sahara desert. Companies like Desert Morocco Adventure offer a range of tours that allow you to experience these stunning landscapes up close. You can even drop our name: The Travelling Foxes when you make a booking!

Culinary Delights: Moroccan cuisine is a feast for the senses. With its mix of spices and flavors, you'll be treated to dishes like tagine, couscous, and mint tea that are now celebrated worldwide. Each region offers its own unique flavors, making Morocco a paradise for food lovers.

Adventure Awaits: For the adventurous souls, Morocco offers endless opportunities. Whether it's trekking in the Atlas Mountains, camel riding in the Sahara, or exploring ancient kasbahs, there's always an adventure waiting around the corner.

Warm Hospitality: In Morocco, the locals are known for their warmth and generosity, making visitors feel like a part of their extended family. This welcoming culture is one of the reasons many travelers return to Morocco. Don't let the hawkers in the Medina turn you off from visiting the rest of the country!

Destinations You Should Not Miss:

Marrakech:

No journey to Morocco is complete without a visit to Marrakech, often referred to as the 'Red City' due to its famous red sandstone buildings. This bustling city is a vibrant tapestry of ancient traditions and contemporary culture. The heartbeat of Marrakech is its bustling Jemaa el-Fnaa square, a UNESCO World Heritage site, where snake charmers, storytellers, and musicians create an atmosphere of constant wonder. Wander through the maze-like alleys of the Medina, where the scent of spices and the vibrant colors of the souks captivate the senses. Marrakech also offers serene gardens like the Majorelle Garden, historical palaces such as the Bahia Palace, and the modern charm of the Ville Nouvelle. This city is not just a place, but an experience, seamlessly blending the historical with the modern, and leaving every visitor enchanted.

In Marrakech, we stayed at the Riad Orient Palace but I will share a list of other top accommodations for you to check out here.

Fes: Fes, often considered the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco, offers a journey back in time. Known for its walled Medina, Fes el Bali, this city is a labyrinth of narrow streets and ancient buildings, untouched by time. The Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is home to the world-renowned Al Quaraouiyine University, one of the oldest universities in the world, and the Chouara Tannery, offering a glimpse into traditional Moroccan crafts. Fes is also famous for its exquisite Islamic architecture, evident in landmarks like the Bou Inania Madrasa and the Bab Boujloud gate. The vibrant souks, filled with aromatic spices, intricate textiles, and handcrafted pottery, are a treat for the senses. In Fes, every corner tells a story, offering a profoundly authentic experience of Moroccan history and culture.

In Fes we stayed at the Riad Fes Yamanda but I will share a list of other top accommodations for you to check out.

Merzouga Desert:

The Merzouga Desert is a gateway to the majestic Sahara, offering a landscape that is both surreal and overwhelmingly beautiful. This part of Morocco is renowned for its vast sea of sand dunes, known as Erg Chebbi, where the dunes can reach up to 150 meters in height, creating a scene right out of a fairy tale. A visit to Merzouga is a chance to experience desert life in its most authentic form. Camel treks at sunset or sunrise offer a magical way to explore the dunes, while nights spent in Berber camps under the starlit sky are unforgettable. The desert is not just about its stunning landscapes; it's also about the warmth of the Berber hospitality, the rhythm of the traditional music, and the simplicity of life away from the hustle of the cities. Merzouga is a place where time stands still, and nature's grandeur is on full display, offering a serene and transformative experience for every traveler.

In the Merzouga Desert, we stayed at the Orient Desert Camp but I will share a list of other top accommodations for you to check out.
